Pennsylvania State University, established in 1855, is a prominent public research institution with campuses across Pennsylvania. Originally founded as Farmers’ High School of Pennsylvania, it became the state’s first land-grant university in 1863. Its main campus, Penn State University Park, is situated in State College. Beyond its land-grant status, Penn State is designated as a sea-grant, space-grant, and one of only six sun-grant universities. Renowned for its research, it holds the classification of “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity” and is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. The university boasts two law schools, Penn State Law and Penn State Dickinson Law, along with the College of Medicine in Hershey. With 19 commonwealth campuses and five special mission campuses, Penn State offers a diverse educational experience. Its athletic teams, the Penn State Nittany Lions, compete in the Big Ten Conference, achieving numerous national championships.
