Pennsylvania State University, established in 1855, is a prominent public research institution with campuses across Pennsylvania. Originally founded as Farmers’ High School of Pennsylvania, it became the state’s first land-grant university in 1863. Its main campus, Penn State University Park, is situated in State College. Beyond its land-grant status, Penn State is designated as a sea-grant, space-grant, and one of only six sun-grant universities. Renowned for its research, it holds the classification of “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity” and is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities.
